Thanksgiving Service to Mark 30 Years Since the Soufrière Hills Volcanic Eruption

On Sunday 29 June 2025, the Montserrat Government UK Office will host a special Thanksgiving Service at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano.

The 1995 eruption changed Montserrat forever—claiming lives, displacing families, and reshaping the island. This service will honour the 19 lives lost in 1997, acknowledge the resilience of the Montserratian people, and recognise the solidarity shown by the global community. It will also reflect on the deep and lasting impact on children who experienced evacuation, loss, and the challenge of rebuilding life in a new land.

Guests will include members of the Royal Family, UK Parliament, diplomats, community leaders, and affected families. The programme features performances from the London Community Gospel Choir, God’s Anointed Ministries, the Montserrat UK Anniversary Choir, poetry by Alliouagana Pearl, and a sermon by Rev Dr Ruthlyn Bradshaw.

The service also honours the Windrush Generation and Caribbean communities whose early response supported Montserrat in a time of great need.
