On Saturday 3rd May, the Montserrat Government UK Office was proud to attend the official launch of Sometimes It’s Funny: Adventures in Parenthood by Edward and Josi Flood—a heartwarming and humorous debut that explores early parenthood through a distinctly Caribbean lens.
This unique book offers an honest, tender, and often funny look at the highs and lows of raising a child in inner-city London. Told from both parents’ perspectives, it journeys through nappy changes, nursery drop-offs, and the emotional shifts of new parenthood, offering insight that is at once deeply personal and broadly relatable.
What makes this narrative especially significant is its cultural context. Drawing from their Saint Lucian and Montserratian heritages, Edward and Josi weave in reflections on the expectations, values, and family traditions that shape their parenting journey. For readers of Caribbean descent—and especially those from Montserrat—this representation is a powerful reminder of the richness of our cultural contributions to British life and family narratives.
Edward and Josi Flood were both raised on the Caribbean islands of Saint Lucia and Montserrat and spent much of their formative years steeped in the values and community life of those islands. Now based in London, where they live with their son Jahdiel, the couple have channelled their experiences into this beautifully written first book.
Sometimes It’s Funny: Adventures in Parenthood is not a parenting manual, but rather a deeply human portrayal of love, growth, and cultural identity. It invites all readers—parents or not—to reflect on the joys and surprises of family life.
The Montserrat Government UK Office congratulates Edward and Josi on this publication and encourages our community to support this important work.
