On Monday, 11th March 2025, Ms. Kei-Retta Farrell, Montserrat Government UK Representative, proudly took part in the 76th Commonwealth Day Celebration, attending a series of commemorative and ceremonial events in London alongside representatives from across the Commonwealth.
The day began at the heart of UK democracy with the Commonwealth Flag Raising Ceremony at the House of Commons—a symbolic gesture recognising the unity and shared values of the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries.
Ms. Farrell then attended the Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Memorial Gates, which honours the service and sacrifice of men and women from the Commonwealth who served in the First and Second World Wars. This poignant moment served as a powerful reminder of Montserrat’s contribution and the importance of preserving the memory of all those who served.
The day concluded with the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, attended by dignitaries, faith leaders, diplomats, Commonwealth representatives, and members of the Royal Family. The service, centred around this year’s theme of ‘One Resilient Common Future’, reflected on the Commonwealth’s enduring commitment to cooperation, inclusivity, and resilience in a rapidly changing world.
Ms. Farrell expressed her pride in representing Montserrat at this important event, ensuring that the island’s legacy, contribution, and future aspirations continue to be recognised and honoured on the global stage.
“It was a privilege to represent Montserrat among our Commonwealth family. Our presence matters, and we will continue to ensure Montserrat’s voice is heard in these international spaces.” – Ms. Kei-Retta Farrell
