MONTSERRAT GOVERNMENT UK OFFICE

About the Office

Established in October 1998, the Montserrat Government UK Office (MGUKO) originated as a response to the challenges posed by the Soufriere Hills Volcano eruption in 1995. Over the years, the office has transformed into a vital connection point between Montserrat, its vibrant diaspora, His Majesty’s Government (HMG) and the Governments of the other British Overseas Territories (BoTs)

Guided by a commitment to effective representation, community development, and the advancement of Montserrat's interests, our mission is to foster strong diplomatic ties, provide comprehensive consular services, actively engage the Montserratian diaspora in the UK, and support the sustainable development of Montserrat.

Through collaborative efforts and strategic initiatives, we aim to promote sustainable economic development, cultural enrichment, and a resilient Montserratian community, actively contributing to the island's growth and prosperity.

  • Strategic Communication: We pride ourselves on being the voice of the Montserrat Government in the UK. From engaging with His Majesty's Government and UK Parliament to liaising with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the diaspora, we ensure that Montserrat's policies and activities resonate powerfully on the international stage.
  • Networking for Development: Our proactive approach extends beyond communication. Through strategic networking, we identify resources, forge partnerships, and seek opportunities that contribute to Montserrat's well-being. We believe in the power of collaboration to drive positive change.
  • Consular Services: We provide consular services for Montserratians studying and living in the UK. We facilitate applications for birth, marriage, and death certificates from the Registrar on island.
  • Empowering the Montserrat Diaspora: We recognise the invaluable skills and experiences within our diaspora community. Our commitment lies in bridging the gap between the Montserrat Government and the diaspora, creating opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • Community-Centric Engagement: Building a strong sense of community is at the core of what we do. By hosting regular meetings for community leaders and circulating vital information, we create spaces for networking, mutual support, and the celebration of our rich cultural heritage.
  • Promoting Sustainable Development through Investment, Trade, and Tourism: As advocates for Montserrat's economic growth, we provide secretariat services for visiting ministers and officials, and actively promote investment, trade, and tourism with a commitment to climate-friendly practices.
